Earthquakes v Houston Dynamo, September 13, 2008

The old San Jose Earthquakes moved to Houston after the 2005 season and became the Dynamo. The new expansion team hosted the first two league games between the two teams in 2008 at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, CA. The Quakes won the first game, on May 22, by a score of 2-1. The second game ended in a 1-1 draw.

MLS Cup Trophy Viewing Party

At the new San Jose Earthquakes / Oakland A’s office in the Fairmont Hotel in downtown San Jose, the 2001 and 2003 MLS cups were put on view for the season ticket holders. We also got a chance to watch David Beckham’s team, the Los Angeles "Scum" Galaxy, lose a soccer game on TV, and pick up free T-shirts. All in all, an evening well spent.

Last August Soccer Silicon Valley held a Rally to show support for keeping the Earthquakes in the bay area. To kick off the 2005 season we held another rally, this time sponsored by the City of San Jose and the San Jose Sports Authority. Well, the Earthquakes are still here, still for sale, and still looking for a new stadium. We got a “stay of execution” last fall but unless the situation improves by late summer, we may lose our team. See the Soccer Silicon Valley Web site for the latest news.

A new grass-roots effort, intended to rally support for keeping the Earthquakes in the bay area and help the team build a new soccer-specific stadium, has been formed. Show your support by signing up as a supporter on the Soccer Silicon Valley Web site, and attend the Rally scheduled for Friday, August 20, at noon in downtown San Jose.
