How I got into teaching...

When I was working at SGI, I was mentoring a coworker in Perl programming. I discovered I enjoyed explaining it like that, and decided to look into the possibility of teaching it at the college level. When I heard that De Anza College was looking for a Perl teacher, I applied and was accepted.

If you'd like to learn Perl in just 8 hours, take the Perl 101 class from Bay View Training. Or if you already know the basics and want to become a Perl guru, take Perl 201. I developed the course and teach it once every 1-2 months on a Saturday. All the dynamic content you see on this site was written using Perl, and it's also a great language for Unix system administration, network administration, and even genetics. For more information:
