I spent these two nights in Bacharach at the Hotel Kranenturm, a hotel which is built on the original medieval town wall and incorporates one of its towers. My room, however, was not in the tower but in the building next to it.

The hotel sits on the medieval town wall, and this is a view from just inside, from the street.

Here you can see the windows, overlooking the railroad tracks and Rhine.

...and with a twist of the handle, it is now hinged along the bottom.
The bathroom in my hotel room was very compact, but at least there is one - many European hotels force guests to share a shower, or at least a toilet.
The shower stall is very small, and the door slides into a space 1/3 of the width of the opening.
