Pictures from the Great American Train
Show, July 19-20, 2003, at the San Mateo Expo Center in San Mateo,
CA. Our layout won second place in the contest!

Laying out this corner was my responsibility. [more]

Bruce and Pete hard at work on the "gate" of our layout. [more]

Dave and Kenny work on the yard layout. [more]

Brian's skyscraper dominates the downtown area.

The yellow road bridge and cliff you see here are mine.

The monorail and much of the detail work is now in place. [more]

Close-up of the water module.

Downtown is taking shape.

Our San Francisco Cable Car runs along this street on monorail track.

Brian attacks the Krispy Kremes.

Pete putting the finishing touches on the gate.

The yard ends with several copies of LEGO's new Train Shed (model 10027).

Pete files down the tracks so the gate operates smoothly.

Finally the public comes in and surrounds our layout.

We set up a computer and projector in the back corner for
presentations.

The crowd is dwarfed by Brian's skyscraper.

A nearby Lionel train layout. [more]

More of the Lionel layout.

Our layout at the end of the 2-day show. [more]

Russell and Dave taking snapshots.

Spiderman clings to the side of Coit Tower while a train pulled by
Thomas the Tank Engine goes past Harry Potter's Platform 9 3/4.

Our airport is served by rail and monorail, but the road leads off the cliff.

By the end of the day, the yard was full of rolling stock.

Thomas gets a chance on the main line! (lower right corner)

Pete's farm is being plowed under to make room for a shopping mall,
but a group of militia in vintage WWII military vehicles is preparing
to make a last stand...

More close-ups of Pete's military vehicles.

Trucks loading at the smaller warehouse, by the feed store.

The main train station (foreground) and City Hall (background).

My square dancers having a hoedown by the city hall.

Water table and park area.

Suburbia.

Russel's fantasy area featuring Thomas the Tank Engine on a figure 8.

The airport.

Our yard, viewed from inside.

The warehouse, built by Mike, has motorized doors that open and close
for the trains. [more]

Brian's amazing skyscraper, which debuted at BricksWest.

The train controllers are hiding behind a memorial to September 11. [more]

The city hall and train station up close.

Entrance to the yard.
