Since I "blogified" my site, I've had comments disabled due to concerns about comment spam. But I think I have fixed that by using a "captcha" image, which the user has to retype some characters from an image in order for the comments to be approved.
So, post some comments!

Hey this looks great. I've been using the MT-Blacklist integrated into wirtebackplus which seems to be working well for me, but I really like this approach. Are you going to post the code? |

Yes, I intend to. I have a bunch of Blosxom plugins that I've either modified or written which I intend to post, but need to write documentation and add comments and such first. It's based on the Authen::Captcha perl module which uses GD to create the image. |

I like the fact that the comments are hierachical. |

Yes - hierarchical comments are very cool! |

That's great. I'm looking forward to seeing the code. Maybe we can integrate both this captcha stuff and the mt-blacklist stuff to have a really solid anti-spam comments module. If there is anything I can do to help you get a release out, let me know. I'd be happy to help out. |

Most of the work on mt-blacklist for blosxom has been based on the writeback plugin, and I like the comments plugin because I want the hierarchical comments. In order to enable trackbacks, though, I'm going to need to have mt-blacklist integrated. I'm working on that. |

it's actually pretty slick..I'm not positive about the characters even though I'm a real live human... |

I noticed that sometimes they can be hard to read. But if you get a hard-to-read one you can reload the page for a different one. But almost all of the time, it's pretty easy to read. My only concern is that someone who is visually impaired or blind would be unable to post comments. Not sure how to handle that. |

Maybe give the option of bypassing the CAPCHA and having your comments go to a moderation queue? |

A fellow blogger and I were just discussing the need for this the other day. I love thinking things like this and then finding out that someone else has not only had the same thought, but done something about it. If my ISP will be so kind as to help me with the necessary module and library, I'll be implementing this as soon as I can. |
Sorry, posting new comments is disabled at this time. Please email me instead.
